NEC, Alternative funding, Oil and gasThe Minister of State for Petroleum Mr Ibe Kachikwu has said there is a need for a forum to galvanise alumni of Nigerian universities who are successful within their rights to give back to schools.

Kachikwu made this known while commissioning the Augustine Avuru building of the department of geology, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

The building was donated by Platform Petroleum Ltd in honour of the first chief executive, Mr Austin Avuru, who graduated from the department in 1980.

Mr Kachikwu said efforts by alumni will go a long way in transforming the Nigerian education system, urging individuals and companies to be resourceful in that regard.

“I urge everybody who is an alumni of universities in Nigeria to begin to think in this direction. The building is significant in terms of the message it’s sending. The message that it is important that graduates of the Nigerian university study with the best tools, best environment and produce best results.”

He, therefore, assured the school that he will do his part to address some of the key needs of the university.
