Tony Hadley Leaves Spandau Ballet Band

Pop singer and songwriter Tony Hadley is no longer a member of the 1980’s new wave outfit and he won’t be performing with them any longer, he revealed this In a statement on his Twitter page.

The remaining band members also released a statement, saying Hadley had ‘made it clear that he didn’t want to work with the band anymore and that they had made the decision to move on as a band.

The band was formed in 1976 in Islington, London, but after a number of years performing and finding their sound they came upon the Blitz club-night in Covent Garden, London, which was a key venue for the development of the New Romantic movement.

Spandau Ballet were best known for their music in the 1980s, including hits ‘True’, ‘Gold’ and ‘Through the Barricades.

But there was to be an acrimonious break-up in store for Spandau Ballet. Most of the group’s best-known songs had been written by Gary Kemp, who received a larger cut of royalties than the rest of the band.

Hadley, Keeble and Norman lost a court battle in 1999 to claim some of those royalties, but by 2009 the band had reformed and were performing a sold-out tour across the UK and Ireland.

Since 2009, the band have toured the world, headlining the Isle of Wight Festival and producing a documentary about their career, ‘Soul Boys of the Western World’.

In 2014, they even recorded a handful of new songs for the album ‘The Story – The Very Best of Spandau Ballet’.
