Wife of the Nigerian President, Aisha Buhari has expressed sadness over the death of the late elder statesman, Maitama Sule.
She described him as one of the leading lights of Nigeria and an epitome of humility, moderation, tolerance, patriotism and love.
“My heartfelt condolences go to the family of the Danmasanin Kano, the Kano State government and people of Kano state in general over the death of Alh. Dr. Yusuf Maitama Sule.
“I pray Allah grants him Aljannatul Firdaus and his family the fortitude to bear this loss,” she said in a tweet.

“He will be remembered for his stabilising role as an elder and statesman and a national example whose life is worthy of commendation and emulation,” Mrs Buhari added.
Dr Sule died at the age of 87 at a hospital in Cairo while undergoing treatment for an illness.
Sympathisers have continued to pay tribute to him even as many describe the death as shocking.
His body arrived in Kano on Tuesday afternoon where he is expected to be buried at the Emir of Kano’s Palace.
