Police in Maryland said early Tuesday (July 4) that one person was dead after a CSX cargo train struck a vehicle on the tracks in Belstville.

Prince George’s County police said the train conductor was unable to stop the train in time after spotting the vehicle on the tracks.

The vehicle was dragged several feet along the tracks before coming to a complete stop.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene after police arrived around 3:40 a.m. local time.
