The Abia Police Command has embarked on proactive measures to rid the state of all types of crimes and ensure that perpetrators are apprehended.

While briefing newsmen during the parade of the suspected criminals and robbers at Umuahia ,the Commissioner of Police ,Leye Oyebade, said the command would not rest on its oars to ensure safety of lives and citizens.

Those paraded include suspected killer of a 67 year old Peter Alaebuonu Esonu, a commercial tricycle operator from Ekenobizi, Umuopara in Umuahia South council area, three suspected cultists, Obike Stanley, Favour Michael and Kingsley Uchenna from Ken-Saro Wiwa Polytechnic Bori and Rivers State polytechnic Ogoni respectively who were arrested at Grand Lotto hotel Aba as well as one Mr.Ogbonnaya Igwe who allegedly shot a woman at Aba.

Items recovered from them include, one axe, cultist regalia, tramadol tablets and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, One pump action riffle and double barrel gun with 15 live cartridges, four expended cartridges amongst many others.

According to CP Oyebade, the suspected killer of a 67 year old commercial tricycle operator is a 200 level computer science student of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU).

He said that the 25 year old suspect, Mr,Chinonso David Ibekwe from Ndiotu Ntalakwu in Bende council area, led the police team and detectives attached to the central police station Umuahia to the recovery of the decomposed body of victim, after his arrest in a ditch at Amuzukwu Umuahia.

The 25 year old suspect Mr Chinonso who has confessed to the crime was not among those paraded because the Police Commissioner said he has been charged to court and remanded in prison custody while the decomposed body has been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy

However, the suspect Mr.Ogbonnaya Igwe who is alleged to have shot a woman with a double barrel gun made a effort to deny it, in his words he said,

“Yes. I know the late woman Ijeoma Chibuzor,we were friends and have been having extra marital affair,

I must confess that the deceased made my life miserable with her continuous extortion and insatiable demand for money when she allege that the romance has resulted in pregnancy,

Initially I gave her the sum of N15,000 (fifteen thousand naira), to terminate the pregnancy, but she came back later to demand another N1million(one million naira) saying that there were complications during the process of abortion resulting in excessive bleeding,

“I had to sell my house in Aba to raise the money, but this woman kept coming for more money,

I cannot explain what happen, I tried to scare her away with the double barrel gun, I did not shoot her “.

But the Commissioner of Police Abia State, Leye Oyenade explained that the policemen from Ndiegoro Division rushed to the scene of the incident at 22 Obohia Road Aba when they received an information that a woman was shot dead.

On arrival, they met the deceased in the pool of her own blood, the suspect  Mr. Igwe try to dodge arrest by hiding in the ceiling of his house.

“”I want to say that it took the relentless effort of policemen to drag him out of the ceiling to the police station.

“And I want you to know that the double barrel gun with 15 live cartridges has four expended cartridges”. the CP added.
