Florian Mayer pleased the home crowd at the German Open on Wednesday with a win against Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov.
Mayer took the first set before Kuznetsov came back to level the scores.
Mayer powered through the final set to take the game 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 and ensure his place in the quarter-finals of the tournament in Hamburg.
The 33-year-old German will go on to face Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman who beat Mayer’s compatriot Cedrik-Marcel Stebe.
The German stormed the first set 6-1, but the Argentine showed character to hit back and win 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Schwartzman and Mayer are due to play their quarter final on Friday, July 28.
