The Chief Judge of Enugu State, Justice Pricilla Emehelu has discharged three awaiting trial inmates of Nsukka prison, unconditionally.

Justice Emehelu who discharged the inmates after reviewing cases of 19 awaiting trial inmates also granted bail to 15 others and ordered the transfer of one Emeka Ugwuoke charged with murder of his twin children, who has been in prison custody for eight years, to Enugu prison where he can access treatment for mental illness.

The Nsukka prison, built during the colonial era with the capacity of accommodating 186 inmates, now has over 280 inmates in its custody, many of whom are on awaiting trial.

Justice Emeghelu said the jail delivery exercise which is second in the series, is in line with act 2007 that empowers the Chief Judge of a state to make orders for the release of persons detained in certain cases.
