The former National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Wale Oladipo says the only way to avoid irregularities in any Local Government election is for the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) to conduct the election itself.

Professor Oladipo who was speaking to journalists shortly after a thanksgiving service at the CAC church, Moore in Ile -Ife, Osun State advocated that the State Electoral Commission should be scrapped.

According to him, the control governors have over State Independent Electoral Commissions makes it easy for them to monopolise the results of local government polls at any time.

Professor Oladipo also suggested that the six geo-political zones in the country should be made federating units to allow for viability of each zone.

Calling for a change in the structure of Nigeria’s federating unit, Professor Oladipo condemned a situation where state governments have to depend on allocation from the Federal Government to run the state.

The former National Secretary of the PDP also called for a stop to the idea of zoning when electing leaders into positions of authority describing it as the bane to the Nation’s democracy.
