The Forum of Former Ministers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has promised to support the National Caretaker Committee of the party morally and financially.
The Chairman of the Forum, Mr Tanimu Turaki, announced this after a closed-door meeting of the former ministers as the party prepares for its national convention scheduled to take place on August 12, 2017.
The PDP has zoned the nomination for its presidency candidacy to the whole of the North while the nomination for the office of the party’s national chairman was zoned to the South.
“We have also resolved to support the efforts of the National Caretaker Committee both morally and financially in this regard,” Mr Turaki told reporters on Thursday in Abuja.
He also declared the Forum’s support for the zoning arrangement ahead of the PDP national none elective convention.
He said party leaders in both North and South can go ahead to make further zoning of the offices but for them at the national level, they stand with the collective decision.
“Whether our leaders in the South will want to sit down and begin to make further zoning with the South is something that is left for them, and whether the leaders in the North will also want to sit down and make further zoning again is something that is left for the leaders in the North.
“But for us at the national level, the position is and has remained that the national chairman is zoned to the South, just as the presidency is also zoned to the whole of the North,” he said.
Apart from zoning, the former ministers promised to support credible candidates that would occupy leadership positions in the party.
“We wish to say that we have also resolved that we are going to support credible Nigerians, not necessarily ministers only to get elected into our working committee because at this critical time, what we need are vibrant and dynamic Nigerians”.
