A former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has supported the restructuring of the country as an end to various agitations for secession and hate speeches by different groups across the country.

He says the time is ripe for all the ethnic nationalities to come together and discuss on how the country should be administered for the interest of peace and unity.

Speaking to reporters in Kaduna after a closed door meeting with a former governor of Kaduna State, Balarabe Musa, Mimiko advocated for a restructuring of the country in a way that will result in the devolution of more power and resources to the states as against the current system that gives the Federal Government excess power.

According to the former Ondo state governor, restructuring and devolution of power to states will certainly not provide all the answers to Nigeria’s developmental challenges; but will douse the tension being generated by the agitations from various parts of the nation.

He also calls for the urgent review of the current revenue sharing formula in favour of the states and Local Governments as well as the establishment of state police across the country for enhanced security.

According to him, a situation where the Federal Government is now getting more money than the states and Local Governments should change to enable the states and local governments get more than what they are getting now to solve their peculiar socio-economic challenges.

On his part, Balarabe Musa stressed that after 100 years of amalgamation of Nigeria as a nation by the colonial masters, there is a need for the review of how the country has fared over these years in order to sustain its unity and progress.
