The Kano State government has donated 29 patrol vehicles to five military and paramilitary agencies, as part of measures to tackle crime in the state.

The state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, who handed over the vehicles to the agencies on Friday in Kano, asked them to make good use of the vehicles in ensuring adequate protection of lives and property of the people of the state.

“Today, Kano is free from insurgency, cattle rustling, armed robbery, and kidnapping; Kano is free from the circulation of dangerous drugs. All these were achieved due to a synergy between various security agencies in Kano.

“Therefore, I want to inform you that we have taken measures that will assist us in reviving our economy because keeping Kano safe is a task that must be done,” he said.

The governor was hopeful that the distribution of the vehicles, which is in its second batch, would go a long way in assisting the agencies in the fight against crime.

“We are fighting insurgency, we are fighting criminality not only within Kano metropolitan or within the 44 local governments of the state, but also we have succeeded in invading Falgore forest which was about to be another Sambisa forest in terms of hosting insurgency, armed robbery, cattle rustling and kidnapping.

“Therefore, in order to sustain this success of keeping Kano safe, we decided to carry out the second batch of vehicles distribution to security agencies across the state,” he added.

In their remarks, representatives of the security agencies assured the governor that the vehicles would be put to use in line with the purpose of which they were given.

The beneficiaries include the 3 Mechanised Brigade of the Nigeria Army and the Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) among other agencies.
