Edo Govt To Demolish Structures Under High Tension Lines

The Edo State government says it will soon commence the demolition of all structures under high tension transmission lines in the state, to prevent associated health hazards.

The Commissioner for Information, Paul Ohonbamu, said that the decision was reached after the State Executive Council meeting which held on Wednesday.

Briefing told reporters at the Government House in Benin City, the state capital, Ohonbamu urged residents to comply with the instruction and begin immediate relocation from the affected areas.

He also announced government plans to beef up security in public institutions – including hospitals, government offices, and public schools among others.

The commissioner said, “Edo people are, therefore, enjoined to be calm and go about their daily duties with the assurance of government’s resolve to ensure their safety and protection.”

On the topical issue of promotion examinations for civil servants, he refuted claims that the exercise was a competency test.

Ohonbamu, however, explained that those employed by the government were already competent but a proper assessment was needed to know areas where the workers require capacity enhancement.

He also assured the civil servants that no worker would be dismissed on the account of not performing well in the exams.
