Court Vacates Interim Order On Nasarawa PDP Crisis

A High Court sitting in Lafia has vacated an interim order for the closure of the secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa state.

The vacation order was to pave way for proper hearing of the matter before the court after Mr Muhammad Tanko asked the court to declare him as the party’s chairman in the state.

The order also restrained Mr Francis Orogu from parading himself as the PDP chairman in order to restore peace in the party.

Wednesday’s sitting, however, came barely a week after Justice John Dikko ordered that the secretariat of the PDP be closed.

Before the hearing began, the court granted the requests of counsels to the defendant and the plaintiff – Ochaku Olegede and Aliyu Ubandoma – to withdraw some of their affidavits to reduce cumbersomeness of the case.

On the order issued by the court on August 9, Mr Olegede asked the court to vacate the interim order and the request was not objected.

Justice Dikko then vacated the earlier order which restrained Mr Orogu from parading himself as chairman of the party and the closure of the secretariat.

Both counsels welcomed the decision of the court.

With the vacation of the interim order, the court said the hearing of the case would commence on August 23.
