One person has been reported killed and 16 others injured as two suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked Muna garage, a satellite community in Maiduguri.

Sources at the Borno State Emergency Management Agency, who took part in the evacuation of those affected, confirmed to Channels TV via phone call that the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon.

According to them, one of the insurgents – who were suicide bombers – reportedly detonated his explosive in the midst of a crowd, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

The second assailant, on the other hand, reportedly held a soldier in a tight embrace and later wrestled with him which led to the soldier losing his rifle in the ensuing scuffle.

The suicide bomber, however, was killed by another soldier when he tried to make away with the rifle.

The aid workers said the injured victims have been evacuated to a hospital for treatment in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The Muna garage axis of Maiduguri has been severally targeted for attacks by the outlawed Boko Haram in the past.

Neither the police or any confirming authority has issued a statement on the incident.
