Edo Govt Provides Alternative Site For Evicted Traders

The Edo State Government has provided an alternative site for street traders who were displaced following the clean-up at New Benin Market to enable them to continue to find their source of livelihood.

The Coordinator of the Edo State Public Works Guard Muktar Yusuf-Osagie told Channels Television that the measure is in addition to the directive by the government that the street traders relocate to the empty shops in the market.

The Public Works Guard has also postponed enforcement of the anti-street trading law till Thursday to allow for adequate sensitization of the traders.

“The State Government has given them a space at Costain Isonorho, they can go there and have their shops and sell conveniently and I want to advise them, the earlier the better because people will not go there and start keeping spaces. We are supposed to start enforcement today actually but we thought it wise to still sensitize them a little bit.

“But I can assure you that by Thursday we will not listen to any plea because then it would be on record that we have been here since on Monday and nobody can up and say there were not aware.”
