President Muhammadu Buhari believes his administration still has more work to do, despite Nigeria’s exit from economic recession.

The President says the Federal Government will not rest until the impact of the nation’s new economic status is being felt by all Nigerians.

The National Bureau of Statistics had earlier on Tuesday released new figures which showed that the Nigerian economy grew at 0.55 per cent in the second quarter of 2017.

The Special Adviser on Economic Affairs to the President, Dr Adeyemi Dipeolu, had also said the data depicted the economy exited recession after five successive quarters of contraction.

President Buhari, however, said in a series of tweets on Tuesday that he was pleased with the news of the nation’s emergence from recession and promised to ensure that the impact was felt by all.

“I’m glad we’re starting to see the fruit of our work but there’s still a lot to be done. We will not rest until all Nigerians feel the impact,” he said.

“The real change for Nigerians is an impact that is felt in their lives and their pockets. We are on the right path, and our work continues. Until coming out of recession translates into a meaningful improvement in people’s lives, our work cannot be said to be done.”

Despite welcoming Nigeria’s exit from recession, the Presidency is staying cautious as it believes the economy is not fully out of the woods yet.

The Presidency, in a statement, attributed the success to government’s overall economic plan and direction which it said resulted in the sustained restoration of oil production levels and sustained growth in agriculture among others.
