Fifteen people are currently under surveillance in Kogi State after they had contact with a lady identified as Aishat Jimoh, a patient of Lassa Fever, who died on Monday during treatment.

The 15 persons confirmed to have had contact with Miss Jimoh, include one of her relatives who is already showing symptoms of the disease.

According to the state commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Audu, the relative will be transferred to Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo state for a confirmation test and official are trying to track others that may have had contact with the deceased.

Miss Jimoh was confirmed to have contracted Lass Fever and eventually died during treatment at Irrua Specialist Hospital, Edo State. Meanwhile, it has been established that she contracted the disease while on a visit in Ondo State.

Dr Jones Taiwo , the Head of Clinical Services (HCS) of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Lokoja explained that Jimoh might have contacted the disease when she traveled to Owo, Ondo State.

“Aisha was in Owo two weeks earlier and took ill as soon as she returned with one of her relation from Adankolo, in Lokoja,” he said.

He said the first case earlier recorded at the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja in April, was also from Owo area and the patient confirmed positive to Lassa fever at Irrua specialist hospital in Edo State.
