The Enugu State Police Command says it is investigating a case of suspected food poisoning at a restaurant in Akwuke community in the state.

This comes two days after a man identified as Emmanuel Ogbu was allegedly served rice and stew at a restaurant where one of the attendants was suspected to have poisoned the said food.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amarizu, confirmed that the incident occurred in Akwuke, Enugu South Local Government Area of the State.

Amarizu said Ogbu raised alarm when he realised that his food appeared different from what was served others, a reaction that led to tension in the area.

He said police intervention prevented an ugly occurrence when a crowd assembled at the scene with the intention of inflicting mob justice on the establishment and its staff.

The police spokesperson said although the motive for the attempted poisoning was not clear yet, the Command had commenced an investigation into the matter.
