Idris Elba, Kate Winslet, Others React To Hurricane Irma

Celebrities who were present at the Toronto International Film Festival reacted to news reports about Hurricane Irma which is currently moving across Florida.

Kate Winslet, who was at the world premiere of survival movie “The Mountain Between Us” urged people to donate money to the Red Cross.

“I actually can’t put it into words. I don’t think anyone can. I can’t put it into words but I keep watching these news reporters and I’m just screaming at the television ‘Where’s your crash helmet?’. These poor incredible people who are communicating information to the rest of the world and they’re standing there with no protective headgear.

“I just want to armor them up. It’s just horrendous. I don’t have the words. It’s just horrific and don’t underestimate the power of donations, everybody. Put your hands in your pockets. The Red Cross need money now, not things.”She said

Idris Elba explained how the storms were evidence of global warming.

“It’s heartbreaking to see so many people going through torment from the weather and it’s par for the course. There is global warming and there are loads of issues that are causing this and my prayers and thoughts go out to everyone that’s suffered, you know. “He said

Steve Carrell said, “Well my dad is down in Florida so obviously thinking about that and I talked to him this morning and everybody who hasn’t left is battening down the hatches and obviously everybody’s thinking and hoping for the best.”

Sarah Silverman said, “You know, Kumail Nanjiani said it best, he said ‘I wish God would give us sign that climate change is real because there’s just hellfire and hurricanes right now in the US and it’s really really scary that at this time we have a president who is a science denier so.”

Forecasters warned that Irma remained extremely dangerous as the monster storm toppled trees and power lines, peeled tiles off roofs and threatened coastal areas with storm surges of up to 15 feet (4.6 m). Tornadoes were also spotted through the southern part of the state.

Some 6.5 million people, about a third of the state’s population, had been ordered to evacuate southern Florida as the storm approached.
