SSANU, NASU, NAAT Suspend Indefinite Strike

The Niger Delta University (NDU), Bayelsa, is threatened with total shutdown of activities as lecturers of the institution is set to comply with directive of the national bodies to  embark on an indefinite strike.

Chairmen of the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the institution have formally directed all their members to immediately comply with the directives.

The NDU chapter of the association during it emergency congress said there is no going back on their action, until the Federal Government fulfills all its obligations to the unions. They said the Federal Government is not living up to its responsibility and has failed in their duties.

Austin Bai, member of SSANU at the institution dispelled any fear of the “No Work No Pay” policy of the Federal Government and urged his colleagues to keep faith with the union.

Also, the NDU chairman of SSANU, Faki Douma, said, “the “no work no pay” policy implementation is a non-issue. The unionist can also call for a no pay no work regime.”

According to the Chairman of NASU at the institution, Kenneth Akpofa, the strike action will be a total shut down of activities on the campus as members are not permitted to perform any duty.
