The National Executive of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has thrown its weight behind the planned demolition of illegal structures built on water channels by the Benue state government, following this years’ massive flooding.

The Second Vice President of the Bar, Mr Monday Ubani while speaking to journalist after a brief meeting with governor Samuel Ortom over the Benue flooding says, the state government, is right in the eyes of the law to demolish structures built in violation of the town planning laws, citing impunity on the part of the house owners, without necessary approvals from regulatory authorities, as a major factor contributing to flooding.

Earlier, Governor Ortom informed the Bar of the condition of the internally displaced persons and efforts being made to address the perennial Benue flooding challenges.
