Two persons suspected to have carried out the shooting in a market in Asaba, Delta State have been arrested by the police.

Twenty-four-old Abraham Ndudi and 21-year-old Okereke Ifeanyi allegedly shot and killed four persons at the Abraka Market on Friday.

The Delta Police Command in a statement said that the suspects were caught from their hiding place in a major hotel where they had fled to escape arrest, adding that they are already helping the police in their investigation. A third suspect is said to be on the run.

The police add that the three men who are suspected to be members of a cult group or Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), stormed and fired indiscriminately into the market, predominantly inhabited by non-indigenes of the state, killing four persons and injuring five others.

The police vowed to carry out a thorough investigation of the attack with a view to finding out the possible involvement of other conspirators.

“The suspects, who were arrested from their hiding place on the ceiling of a major hotel in Abraka, Asaba, where they had fled into in their dire bid to escape arrest, are already helping the police in their investigation. Meanwhile, efforts are on top gear to arrest the third suspect, whose real name is yet unknown but simply identified as Last Burial,” a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer for the Abia State Command, DSP Aniamaka Andrew, said.

The men were said to have been dressed in all black when “fired indiscriminately into Abraka market, Asaba, predominantly inhabited by non-indigenes of the state and in the process killed four persons.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Zanna Ibrahim, called on non-indigenes and indigenes of the state not to panic or even contemplate any reprisal as the law will surely take its course.

Ibrahim commiserated with the relations and friends of both those killed and injured and assures them that “everything humanly possible is being done by the police and other security agencies towards ensuring their utmost safety at all times”.
