The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the third suspect who allegedly carried out the shooting in a market in Asaba, the state capital.

The State Commissioner of Police, Zann Ibrahim, confirmed the arrest after meeting with residents of the Hausa settlement where the attack is reported to have occurred.

He assured northerners and all other residents of the safety of their lives and properties urging them to continue with their daily activities and businesses without panic or fear.

“We are on top of the situation to give residents that feeling of safety despite the events that occurred yesterday. We have three suspects in our custody, two were arrested yesterday and we have just nabbed the third person who is believed to have masterminded the act and he’s helping us with our investigations,” the Commissioner said.

Security presence is heavy around Abraka market, a Hausa settlement in the Delta state capital located along the Asaba-Onitsha expressway which was allegedly reported to have been attacked by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to the residents, at least four persons have been killed following an attack by unknown hoodlums alleged to be members of the IPOB.

An Eyewitness said the gunmen invaded the unsuspecting Hausa/Fulani settlement at about 10:00 pm on Friday night and their homes shooting sporadically, killing about four people and leaving several others injured.

Just as promised, the police and other security agencies must do all it can towards ensuring that this does not escalate into crisis.
