Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has launched the state’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) plan for 2017-2020.

The plan focuses on improving the standard of living of citizens and the provision of comprehensive targets for all aspects of development and coordinating the efforts of all actors.

In his address at the launching of the SDGs Document, the governor said the aim was to achieve an inclusive economic growth and socio-economic transformation of the state.

El-Rufai, who spoke on Monday at Government House, Kaduna, was hopeful that the development would translate into substantial improvement in the quality of lives of citizens.

He added that it would help to tackle some of the socioeconomic challenges of the state such as poverty, illiteracy, maternal and child mortality among others.

Some of the goals and targets, which have been fully integrated into the SDGs plan, are ending poverty and hunger in all forms as well as achieving food security and improved nutrition for the people.

Others include promoting sustainable agriculture, promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all, as well as achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls among other goals.

Governor El-Rufai, however, said his administration would work hard to generate sufficient data and identify the state’s baseline status of the SDG by working closely with development partners to achieve the targets of the plan.
