Kaduna Govt Warns ULC Against Compelling Fuel Stations To Close

The Kaduna State government has warned members of the United Labour Congress (ULC) to desist from compelling fuel stations to close up in compliance with its ongoing strike.

The government identified the union as “yet to be registered” and directed security agencies to the arrest and prosecute anyone violating the law under any guise in the state.

The directive followed the Kaduna State Security Council meeting which held on Tuesday at the Government House in Kaduna.

The state government said it has received reports of some ULC members going around the state to create conditions of hardship for residents by forcing petrol stations to close shop.

A statement used by Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, however, described the act as totally unacceptable.

The government vowed not to allow anyone cause chaos in the state under any guise, including that of trade union activities.

They urged all owners and operators of fuel stations in the state to open, sell fuel and ease the hardship being needlessly imposed on citizens by the union.

The state government said the operators have a duty to disregard illegal orders, and an obligation to fulfill their duty of service to the public while reporting any attempt to obstruct their business to the appropriate authorities.
