The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, to approve the recruitment of at least 31, 000 policemen annually for the next five years in order to meet up with the internal security of the nation.

At the passing out parade of 1,198 constables at the Nigeria Police College in Kaduna state, the police chief says the current number of one policeman to six hundred citizens is grossly inadequate, hence to inject more manpower into the force.

Addressing the new constables, the IGP represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, in charge of Logistics and Supply, Maigari Dikko urges them to be change agents and good ambassadors of the force.

He reminded them that the force has zero tolerance for corruption,  hence the need for them to keep away from illegal conducts capable of tarnishing their personality and the image of the police.

Mr Idris further reassured to make training and retraining of officers a top priority, as well as improving their welfare for better performance.
