After the recently recorded case of Monkeypox in Akwa Ibom, neighbouring Cross River State is already bracing up for a possible outbreak of the epidemic setting up strict surveillance.

Part of the efforts towards prevention of the outbreak is a strict surveillance of communities bordering Nigeria and Cameroon.

This response becomes necessary because Cross River state plays host to different species of wild monkeys, with over 50 percent of Nigeria’s rainforest preserved in the state.

The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Inyang Asibong said hands are on deck through continuous border surveillance to ensure that, Cross River State remains Monkey Pox free.
