The chairman Taskforce on Polio eradication in Yobe state north east Nigeria Mister Abubakar Aliyu has tasked parents and guardians to disregard the vaccination rumour that went viral nationally by ensuring their children are immunized against polio.

Mr Abubakar Aliyu who doubled as the state deputy governor expressed regrets that enemies of education advancement are at work to discourage school enrollment and attendance and charges parents to ensure their wards return to school for effective learning.

Barely a fortnight ago had pupils and students in Damaturu the state capital ran home for fear of being vaccinated on the head and naval by unknown people a situation that brought teaching and learning on its kneels for several days.

“This rumour is not just in Yobe state as we heard it in Rivers, Anambra, Borno and across the country.

“It is highly unfortunate that some people are working hard to thwarts the progress of education. They have used guns, explosives and other strategies and this could be one of such.

“I am saying this with a loud voice that we should disregard this rumour in its totality and allow our children return and remain focus in school” the deputy governor said.

He commend the efforts of donor agencies and spirited individuals for their contributions toward successful immunization and task the media, traditional and religious leaders among other stakeholders to mobilized the people towards a hitch free immunization.

The deputy governor had led the immunization team to sensitize the people on the need to disregard the rumour as well as participate actively in the routine polio immunization by ensuring their children within the age receive the polio vaccine.

The idea of the campaign is to ensure that the state maintain a polio free state as recorded for the past three years.
