A member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Mr. Oladimeji Fabiyi has advised the President Muhammadu Buhari to consider the nation first, rather than his party in appointing more ministers into his cabinet.
He made this known on Wednesday while appearing on a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily in Abuja.
“I do not have any problem with that (appointing more ministers), I do not have any problem with cabinet reshuffle. I don’t have problem with board appointments, but what I have problem with is it should not be just for party patronage.
“It should be for the good people of this country, people that will come on board and do the right thing, people that will come on board and provide that good governance to the people. That is my concern.
“Yes I agree to the fact that you have to balance it, taking in mind that you are going to have an election in the next two years, but at the same time you need a good score card to be able to do that,” he said after praising the presidential announcement on Tuesday.
Fabiyi’s comments come barely 24 hours after the President hinted during the National Executive Council meeting of his party in the nation’s capital that he would appoint new members into his cabinet.
The President said, “Last year I said we would re-constitute the Boards of Parastatals. I must regret the fact that we have not done so, for many reasons.
“By the grace of God, these appointments will be announced soon, especially now that the economy is improving; we will have the resources to cater for the appointees.
“By the same token the compressed Federal Executive Council will be expanded to bring in more supporters at Federal Level, with fresh ideas to be injected into the government.”
Although the party loyalist admitted that people assisted the President in his emergence at the last general election, it however should not mean that mediocre should occupy certain positions just for them to be compensated.
He added, “President Muhammadu Buhari did not win this election on his own. People helped him, people contributed financially and otherwise to make sure that he becomes the president.
“So it behooves on Mr President to call these people. Let us say groups, Tinubu has his own group, Atiku has his own group, all other people have. There is no group that does not have both the good and the bad people.
“And the leaders of these groups know the good and the bad there. It is for Mr. President to ask them give me some of your best to help me in this journey. It is about stake holding, we must remember that and that is politics.”
