Police Raid Two Ritualist Dens In Osun

Officers attached to the monitoring unit of Zone 11 Police Command have uncovered two ritualist dens within two days in Iwo, Osun State.

One of the dens was discovered on Wednesday at Akanmole village, a distance of about 45 minutes’ drive from Iwo town, where one Ahmed Mustapha popularly known as Melue was arrested.

Melue, 41, who claimed he operates a traditional herbalist shrine, said he situated the shrine in the middle of nowhere as a result of a rift he had with other herbalists in the town.

However, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 11, Mr Agboola Osodi-Glover, said the information the police got contradicted the suspect’s claims.

He added that the suspect has nothing to identify him as a traditional herbalist while his purported colleagues in the town said they do not recognise him as their member.

In a similar development, two suspects were arrested at another den in less than 48 hours at Lanbiwonnu village also in the town.

The suspects who were apprehended with four victims, fake foreign currencies and effigies of different kids, claimed they were only fraudsters and not kidnappers.

One of the suspects, Thomas Ajah, who is from Benue State said they only dupe people brought to the den through various means.

On his part, one of the victims Balogun Kabiru said he came from Lagos to cure for his ailing child.

“We were told that the place is a church only for us to come here and see shrines – 16,000 had already been demanded from us but thank God the police arrived to rescue us,” he added.

Mr Osodi-Glover, however, said the suspects would be investigated while necessary actions would be taken against whoever was found culpable.
