A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Chris Nwaokobia, has asked the Federal Government develop the Niger Delta space into a huge construction site.

Nwaokobia, the convener of Country First, stated this during his appearance Monday on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

“What government must do is to turn the Niger Delta space to a huge construction site,” he said.

His recommendation comes three days after a militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, announced the cancellation of its ceasefire agreement with the government.

The group, in a statement published on its website on Friday last week, accused the government of working with a group to jeopardise the sincere efforts the in the region to achieve economic freedom.

Nwaokobia, who also condemned the threat issued by the militants, however, urged the Federal Government to take a decisive step in tackling the menace.

He said, “The tragedy of the Niger Delta story is the fact that consistently, government has done more of talking than more of engagement in terms of negotiation than practical action and that is why the Niger Delta Avengers has something they can log on to threaten the space and the economy.”

“I have said repeatedly that Operation Red Economy is not good for the people, it is not good for the country it is not good for anybody but what we must do as a nation and as a people is not only talk but walk the talk.”

The APC member further appealed to government should develop the region, especially in the area of infrastructure.

“Rather than paying stipends or giving money to the young boys (the militants), what you do is to turn that space into a massive centre of infrastructure development,” he added.
