Just six months after Cristiano Ronaldo racked up 25 league goals to propel Real Madrid to the Liga title, the Portuguese hitman seems to have lost his scoring touch.
While the champions eased to a 3-0 victory over Las Palmas on Sunday (November 5), neither Ronaldo or Karim Benzema found the back of the net.
Manager Zinedine Zidane seems unconcerned by his strikers’ form, saying Ronaldo set up Isco’s goal.
Zidane said, “Cristiano gave the assist for the goal and I can tell you he was very pleased with his pass he gave to Isco. Maybe you don’t see that because you want to see something else, but he was very pleased with the assists.
“We all know that Cristiano likes scoring goals, that’s obvious. He’s happier when he scores goals, that’s true, but me, him, everybody is convinced that he’s going to be the difference.
“He’s not being the difference by scoring goals at the moment in La Liga at the moment but he does other things as well. He’s very useful for the team. Cristiano is always the man who is going to make the difference.”
Real Madrid’s win is welcome news for the team after two losses in recent weeks – the first against Girona, where they went down 2-1 and the second against Tottenham, when they lost 3-1 at Wembley Stadium.
The victory took Real above neighbours Atletico, who also have 23 points, on goal difference into third spot, four off Valencia and eight adrift of Barcelona.
