At the end of the summit, President Buhari and five other West African leaders called for an immediate roadmap to pave the way for negotiations between the Togolese government led by President Faure Gnassingbe and the opposition movement.

The urgent demand by the leaders came at a meeting to discuss the situation in Togo, on the sidelines of the summit.

Presidents of Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Benin Republic and Guinea Conakry, attended the meeting with President Eyadema.

Meanwhile, President Buhari is expected to attend a counter-terrorism summit in Jordan on December 2 and 3.

The meeting tagged ‘Aqaba Retreat’ and hosted by His Majesty, King Abdullah II of Jordan, will review strategies in fighting terrorism and reinforce joint proactive security structures in preventing attacks.

It is expected to be attended by West African leaders, representatives of governments of 48 countries, and a number of key non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
