Nigerian Fans Install Thierry Henry As ‘Igwe Of Goals’

Former French international Thierry Henry has been installed as the ‘Igwe Of Goals’, an Igbo way of calling the Arsenal legend the king of goal scorers.

Henry got the title which was conferred on him by his Nigerian fans on Sunday during his visit to the country to celebrate the passion of the game with them.

Shortly after he arrived in Lagos on Sunday, he had an interactive session with fans and watched the English Premier League match between West Brom and Manchester United.

The four-time Premier League top scorer also talked about his football experience and his relationship with former teammate Victor Ikpeba back then at Monaco.

He said, “You have to go through your struggle and come out of it as a winner. No matter how far you have to go, if you come out of it, it’s always good”.

Henry also joked about how he communicates with former teammate Kanu Nwankwo in pidgin.

“All I know is that I used to say to Kanu ‘how body’, then he used to say ‘body dey’; so I knew we are good,” he said.
