The Nigeria Wrestling Federation is seeking for corporate sponsorship as funding is still a major problem for Nigerian athletes competing at international tournaments.

The President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali, who was a guest on Channels Television Sports Programme on Tuesday, said Seven wrestlers failed to make it to Senior Commonwealth Wrestling Championships in South Africa due to insufficient funds to purchase their flight tickets.

Igali said, “We were going to go with twelve athletics, but we didn’t have the funds to take twelve athletes.

Igali, however, urged the government to start treating the Sports Ministry as something that is unique, unlike other ministries.

He said, four Nigerian female wrestlers, distinguished themselves at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships in Brakpan, South Africa following their scintillating performances.

“In the 76kg weight class, Bayelsa-born Kemeasuodei Dressman won gold while multiple-African Champion Blessing Oborodudu claimed a silver medal in the 68kg category.

“Fighting in the 72kg weight class, Gofit Winnie won a silver medal while Commonwealth Champion Aminat Adeniyi settled for a bronze medal”.

He further added that team Nigeria would have done better if the team was complete.
