The Federal Government has declared Monday and Tuesday, December 25 and 26, 2017 as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day.

Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), made the declaration on Thursday on behalf of the Federal Government.

He also announced that Monday, January 1, 2018, has been declared as public holiday to mark the New Year.

The minister appealed to Christian faithful and all Nigerians to use the period to pray earnestly for the betterment and development of the country.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Abubakar Magaji, he called on the people to strengthen their resolve to maintain peace and unity among themselves.

Dambazau further urged Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to support the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in its determination to improve the quality of life of the citizens.

He wished everyone happy Christmas and New Year celebrations.
