One Person Feared Dead In Fresh Adamawa Herdsmen Attack

One person has been reported killed following an attack by suspected herdsmen in Bilachi, a community in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The attack was said to have occurred at about 7:00 pm on Thursday as the assailants reportedly set the village ablaze, leaving the people to scamper to safety.

Channels Television gathered that the person killed was the younger brother of the village chief while one other person sustained injury from a machete cut on his left hand and his back.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Othman Abubakar, has confirmed the incidence to our correspondent in Yola, the state capital.

Abubakar, however, said he is yet to get more updates on the attack.

The attack on Bilachi community comes less than three weeks after assailants suspected to be herdsmen went on a rampage and attacked Lawaru and Dong communities.

Two village heads were reported killed following the attacks which were said to have taken place early in the morning on December 4, in Demsa Local Government Area of the state.

Herdsmen Attacks: Security Expert Blames NOA For Failure To Create Security Consciousness

The Chairman of neighbouring Numan Local government Area, who also confirmed the attack, had told Channels Television that the assailants set people’s homes ablaze.

However, a security expert and retired Amry Captain, Umar Aliyu, had stressed the need for proper engagements between government and the people.

Aliyu said during his appearance on Sunrise Daily earlier in December that the war against terror could only be won if the government engages the Nigerians using their respective indigenous languages.

“The National Orientation Agency (NOA) speaks English on their media jingles, you think the man in Biu speaks English, do you think he has light to watch television? The campaign against terrorism should be broken down into languages to that local village man,” he had said.
