President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the constitution of the governing boards of agencies and parastatals making the largest set of appointments since assuming office.

According to a statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Friday, December 29 the President appointed 209 board chairmen and 1,258 board members.

The SGF, Boss Mustapha in the statement said President Buhari considered the approval for the constitution of the Boards as well as the appointments, very necessary, so as to provide a proper governance and oversight structure for Government Agencies and Parastatals.

“The constitution of the boards with the appointments is a demonstration of this Government’s efforts aimed at building strong institutions of Governance, and by extension, improving the quality of Policy formulation and supervision.

“While these appointments represent a substantial number of hitherto pending board appointments, some more appointments are still being processed and will be released in due course.

“The appointments take immediate effect and honourable ministers are advised to inaugurate the boards after letters of appointment have been issued,” he said.

Among the appointees is the former Ekiti Governor of Ekiti State, Niyi Adebayo, who will be serving on the board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr Festus Keyamo who will be serving on the board of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Senator Ayo Arise who will be on the board of Sheda Science and Technology Complex.

Also, Senator Olorunimbe Mamora is appointed the chairman of Abuja Investment and Infrastructure Centre and the General Overseer of Foundation of Truth Ministry, Lagos State, Reverend Yomi Kasali, is appointed on the board of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission.

The secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mala Buni, is appointed the chairman of the Shippers Council while the publicity secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, will be in charge of the National Sugar Development Council, NSDC.

According to Boss Mustapha, who announced the latest massive batch of appointees, more appointments are on the way.
