Ad hoc Electoral Official Slumps, Dies While On Duty In Delta

The police in Delta State on Saturday confirmed the death of an ad hoc staff of Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) deployed to Onicha-Ugbo, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.

Residents in Delta State on Saturday took to the polls to elect who will govern their affairs at the third tier of government. The local government election which initially started peacefully however turned violent following reported attack on the Ughelli office of the State’s Independent Electoral Commission where at least three persons were injured.

The state police public relations officer, Andree Aniamaka, confirmed to Channels Television that the ad-hoc staff slumped and died shortly after delivering the voting materials in a voting centre at Onicha-Ugbo area of the state.

The identity of the deceased staff is however still unknown.

Reports also have it that elections went on smoothly in Aniocha North Local government, with an impressive turn out of voters in areas covered, and largely peaceful.

The police spokesperson also confirmed that fire incident in Ughelli North, adding that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
