The Nigeria Medical Association have taken to the streets of Calabar, demanding the release of their colleague, Doctor Emem Udoh, who was recently kidnapped by unknown men in Calabar the Cross River State Capital.

The body also expressed dismay over the incessant kidnap and release of their colleagues in recent times.

The Cross River State Chairman of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Dr Effiong Mkpanam who led the protest to the government house in Calabar told newsmen in Calabar that, doctors across the State are on a seat at home for security reasons until their colleague is released.

The peaceful protest saw the members through different streets of Calabar and also a stopover at the government house to draw government’s attention to this worrisome trend of kidnapping medical doctors.

The protesting doctors numbering over one hundred carried banners with inscriptions like, “We demand the unconditional release of Dr Emem Udoh, an end to kidnap, torture and extortion of Medical doctors, security for all residents of Cross River State in displeasure.

Addressing the press, the Chairman of the Association and other aggrieved doctors expressed dissatisfaction with the rate of doctors being kidnapped in the state noting that, five doctors and three of their family members were kidnapped in 2017 by gunmen.
