NSCDC Discover Vandalism Activities Along Abia, Rivers State Boundary

As scarcity of petrol still lingers across the country, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kaduna State has uncovered a Large illegal petrol depot near an NNPC mega station in the Mando area of the state.

The NSCDC officials also impounded over 10 vehicles used in conveying the products to the black market as well as arrested four suspects in connection with the illicit business.

The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Modu Bunu, who conducted reporters round the illegal petrol dump, says the black marketers connived with the officials of the NNPC mega station to divert petrol meant to serve members of the public to the illegal dump, which they thereafter, sell to motorists at the black market at exorbitant price.

According to information, the black marketers siphon the petrol from the mega station in connivance with the management at night into the dump, where they load them in vehicles and jerry cans.

However, luck ran against the culprits when officials of NSCDC raided the dump leaving tanks, drums and jerry cans all filled with PMS.

Some of the vehicles already loaded with PMS were also impounded, while four suspects including the Supervisor of the mega station were arrested by the command.

While conducting journalists around the illegal dumps, the Kaduna state NSCDC commandant, expressed concerns that some Nigerians could be so heartless to indulge in such an unpatriotic act when the majority of the people were suffering as a result of the petrol scarcity.

He described the activities of the suspects as an act of sabotage that attracts stiff sanctions.

One of the suspects who is also the Supervisor of the mega station, however, says he was not aware that the illegal business was going near the station.

The NSCDC says it will stop at nothing to ensure that black marketers and their likes run out of business especially as the Federal Government is battling to tackle the acute petrol scarcity that hit the nation last year.
