The Osun State Local Government election has commenced despite a low turnout of residents at the polls.

The Osun state Independent Electoral Commission had announced that out of the 389 wards across the state, 318 councillorship candidates in 318 wards were presented unopposed.

Accreditation and Voting however did not commence in Osun Central and Osun West senatorial districts until about 9.00 am as the sensitive materials including the voters register were delivered to most of the polling units at 8.45 am.

The Presiding Officer for Unit 8, ward 13 Osogbo Local Government who identified himself as Oparinde Micheal, while addressing journalists disclosed that some sensitive materials like the ballot papers and voters register were yet to arrive at his polling unit.

“We have with us now the ballot box, stamp ink and some others stationary we need but we are yet to receive ballot papers, voters register and some other forms,” he said.

Only 6 political parties are participating in the elections as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opted out of the election.
