President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Mr Edward Adamu as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, announced this in a statement signed by him on Thursday.

He said President Buhari has also asked the Senate to confirm the nomination in a letter dated January 26, 2018, and addressed to the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki.

According to Adesina, this President’s request is in accordance with the provisions of Section 8(1) (2) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) (Establishment) Act 2007.

Adamu hails from Gombe State and replaces Mr Sulaiman Barau – from Zaria in Kaduna State, who retired in December 2017.

The nominee, who has spent 25 years in the CBN, was appointed in 2012 as Director of Strategy.

He later became the CBN Director of Human Resources in 2016, from where he was nominated as Deputy Governor.
