Lassa Fever Kills Pregnant Woman In Cross River

The Cross River State Government has confirmed four suspected cases of Lassa Fever in the State with one of the patients who is a pregnant woman dead.

The woman is suspected to have died as a result of the virus at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).

The woman whose age is yet to be known, is said to have traveled from Taraba  State and was first admitted at the Nigerian Navy Hospital along Moore Road Calabar, before she was transferred to the intensive Care Unit of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital UCTH.

Confirming the incident, Cross River State Commissioner for Health ,Inyang Asibong who spoke to Channels Television that the deceased had to be transferred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital following her critical state before she finally died.

She further disclosed that, samples of blood of the deceased has been taken for proper diagnosis, assuring that measures have been put in place to avoid spread.

Delta State government on Wednesday, January 31st confirmed the death of one person as a result of Lassa Fever who at the Federal Medical Center in Asaba. Another case of Lassa fever was confirmed in the state.
