The incident which occurred on Tuesday at the Upper Igun area, by 3rd East Circular Road Junction, in Oredo Local Government Area of Benin City, the state capital, got the youths provoked over the alleged killing of a man in the area.

But the worried governor appealed to the aggrieved parties to give peace a chance. He however assured that justice would be done.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Mr Crusoe Osagie, Obaseki said, “Allow for justice to run its due course, as efforts are underway to ensure that those liable for the crime are brought to book.”

He also condemned the fact that the incident degenerated into the civil disturbance, noting that there were better ways to resolve the scuffle.

The statement read in part: “The relevant security agencies are on the alert to quell further breakdown of law and order in the area. We also appeal to the people to be calm and cooperate with security agencies to bring in those responsible for the unrest.”
