Mr Babatunde Adeniyi, the Chairman, Joint Action Committee of the unions told journalists on Tuesday that the strike was suspended following the resolutions of the Governing Council Chairmen of the six institutions.

“We are suspending the strike action with the hope that the state government will release funds to these institutions to clear the salaries arrears owed workers from seven to 17 months,” he said.

In his reaction, Professor Gbemiga Adewale, Provost, OYSCATECH thanked the unions for their understanding.

Adewale said academic activities would commence at the college on Monday, February 12 based on the recently revised academic calendar for 2017/2018 academic session.

The unions involved in the three-month strike were Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SANNIP) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU).

Also among them were the Senior Staff Union in Colleges of Education Nigeria (SSUCOEN) and College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU).

The resumption of academic and non-academic activities came on the heels of series of talks and negotiations with the Oyo State Government.
