One of the remaining two policemen declared missing in Benue State has been found dead.

The State Police Command announced this in a statement obtained by Channels Television on Monday.

According to the statement, the deceased who was a non-commissioned officer was found brutally murdered by his killers.

The police authorities in the state prayed that God Almighty grants the departed eternal rest.

They, however, restated their commitment to the statutory and daunting obligation of ensuring security, as well as the protection of lives and property of the people.

The remains of the policeman were recovered two days after he was reported missing alongside three of his colleagues deployed in Ayilamo in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The four policemen were declared missing after suspected herdsmen ambushed a Police Mobile Force patrol team in Logo LGA.

The attackers were said to have set one of the patrol vehicles ablaze during the ambush which occurred while the team was returning from an operation in some villages in the local government.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Fatai Owoseni, later told Channels Television during a telephone interview on Sunday that two of the missing policemen had returned.

“Yes, I can confirm that two out of the four policemen declared missing after Saturdays’ attack on our patrol team in Ayilamo by suspected herdsmen, have re-joined their colleague unhurt. We are hoping that the other two policemen will re-join the team safely,” he had said.

However, one of the remaining two policemen was found brutally murdered while the whereabouts of the other has yet to be ascertained.
