The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai on Wednesday said Nigerians should keep faith with the various effort of the military and keep their fingers cross for what he describes as the ‘end of Boko Haram.’

He said troops of the Nigerian Army are ready to completely tackle the current menace of Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East.

The Lieutenant-General said this at the graduation of 2,723 soldiers from the 76 regular intake professional training course at the Nigerian Army training centre in Kontagora, Niger State.

Nigeria has witnessed years of insecurity, particularly in the North East where activities of the Boko Haram sect has left thousands dead and many more displaced.

To tackle the challenge, the Nigerian military has continued to evolve measures, including training of its personnel on various aspects of counter-terrorism operations.

He said he believes that the training is an indication that the Nigerian troop is on top of its game and ready to defend the territorial integrity of the country against all kinds of intrusion.

Buratai who was represented by the Corps Commander Artillery, Major-General Mohammed Garba said Nigerians should keep faith with the Nigerian troop and expect to see the end of Boko Haram insurgency.

“The training undertaken by the Nigerian army training center which culminated in today’s occasion is one of the several measures taken to adequately prepare troops of the Nigerian army to be capable of performing their duties in the defence of our dear nation, he said.

He charged the graduands to prepare to put into practice whatever they have learnt in the discharge of their duties wherever they might be posted thereafter.

“You must not rest on your oars, rather you should thrive hard and improve on the standard attained by attending courses in the course you will find yourselves in.”

“I must consider it necessary to remind you of the oath of allegiance that you took on enlistment which calls for a high standard of professional conducted. In this regard, the Nigerian army demands of you a high level of selfless service, courage, discipline, integrity, respect for others and above all absolute loyalty.”

Also at the event, the Commander Nigerian Army Training Centre, Major-General Ebenezer Oyefolu said the course is packaged to ensure that young soldiers, especially those of infantry corps have further training immediately they graduate from depot.

He explained further that the course is primarily designed to include soldiers’ skill at arms, tactics, patrols, and counter-insurgency, map reading and navigation, combat fitness, team spirit and regimentation among others.

The Nigerian army on Tuesday said the Boko Haram has been overpowered, making the factional leader of the sect, Abubakar Shekau, fleeing. He is reported to be on the run, be dressed as the woman in hijab.

while that remains a good news to most nigerians, many still await the day that the carnages and bombings in the north-east will cease.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday also expressed confidence, in the end, the era of Boko Haram terrorism as a result of the insurgents’ narrowing recruitment base.

The President said the terrorist group has lost its appeal in its initial strongholds, coupled with a sustained onslaught by the Nigerian Army.
