2019: We Don’t Have An Alternative To President Buhari – SGF

Pro-Buhari protesters under the aegis of the Democratic Youth Congress called on the President to seek relection on Thursday, February 15 in Abuja

Amid increasing talks about whether President Muhammadu Buhari will seek re-election or not, the Secretary to the Federal Government, Boss Mustapha, has said there is no alternative to the President for the time being.

The SGF, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters, Gideon Sammani, said this on Thursday while addressing a pro-Buhari rally in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.

“We do not have an alternative to Mr President for now,” he said, before taking a swipe at those that have indicated interest in replacing President Buhari.

“Some of the aspirants who are interested in leading this nation have nothing to offer to this nation.”

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters, Gideon Sammani, met the protesters on behalf of the SGF

Hundreds of protesters had converged on the Unity Fountain in Abuja, demanding that President Buhari seek re-election.

The protesters held the rally under the aegis of the Democratic Youth Congress.

“The purpose of coming here today is to mobilise and also hold a very big rally for President Muhammadu Buhari,” said the group’s National Chairman, Kassim Mohammed.

National Chairman of the Democratic Youth Congress, Kassim Mohammed, said the group is ready to sue the President if he doesn’t seek re-lection

With the 2019 general elections getting closer, opinions have been split about whether the President should seek re-election.

While some, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, have advised him against going for another term, others such as Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State have asked him to do so.

With the clock ticking, some of his supporters such as the Democratic Youth Congress are running out of patience.

Their support for the President would not stop them from suing him if he doesn’t declare his intention in the coming days.

“We have a cardinal call that if President Muhammadu Buhari does not come out and make a public statement before Monday (February 19), we will be forced to go to court and invite him to come to court and make a public statement that he is recontesting for President come 2019,” the DYC national chairman said.

The SGF assured the protesters that he would deliver their message to the President.
