Boko Haram: 75 NSCDC Personnel Killed In Borno In 2016 – Civil Defence Officials

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commenced special training for its officers and men on how to effectively secure the ranches and cattle colonies being proposed by the Federal Government across the country.

Speaking at the induction of the first batch of 150 officers for the training, NSCDC Assistant Commandant General, Adamu Soja, says the deployment of their personnel to the proposed ranches and grazing reserves is part of measures being put in place by the Federal Government to tackle the incessant conflicts between farmers and herders that have left several people dead in most parts of the country,
the programme.

The project tagged ‘Federal Government Agro-Rangers Scheme’, is an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and that of Interior in collaboration with NSCDC.

The Assistant Commandant General told journalists that the officers who were selected from across the 36 states of the federation, will undergo training on surveillance, intelligence gathering, peace and conflict resolution.

He also stated that the training will adequately build the capacity of the benefiting officers in their duty of protecting farmlands and ranches from the nefarious activities of rustlers and other militia groups.

The Assistant NSCDC Commandant General, further disclosed that the officers at the end of their training will be deployed to farmers and pastorates on request, as well as government-owned cattle colonies, ranches and grazing reserves.
